As much as we love our Campers - sometimes it can get a little too cramped inside. With the SpaceCamper tailgate tent you can now easily expand the space provided by your camper. Simply attach the tent to the tailgate and the perfect shelter is in place. Magnetic or snap fasteners (depending on the model), hooks, zipper, and velcro hold the tent securely to the back hatch. So the space behind the van can be ideally used as a rain and wind shelter that provides privacy to its user, a night kennel for the dog, or as a shower cabin. For those who have a shower with a water connection at the rear of the car one can shower here quite comfortably while being protected from prying eyes. Here the combination with the SpaceCamper mosquito net is also advantageous, as the mosquito net optimally protects the interior of the Bulli from water splashes while using the shower head inside of the tent.
The tailgate tent for the VW T6.1, T6 and T5 is available in two versions:
- for the VW California (also suitable for Caravelle Comfortline/Highline, Multivan)
- for the VW Transporter (also suitable for Caravelle Trendline)

The dimensions of the tailgate tent
Height: 190 cm, width: 170 cm, depth: 135 cm.
The tailgate tent is delivered in a storage bag, with which it can be stowed in a pack size of 35 cm x 30 cm x 7 cm. Unlike the tailgate tent in the SpaceCamper vehicles, this tent is not stowable in the tailgate. The rear tent can be cleaned by handwash at a temperature of up to 40°C.
How to attach the rear tent:
- For VW Transporter: Replace screws from the tailgate trim with plastic clips using a metal ball pin
- For VW California: Install special magnetic holders on the tailgate (see point 5 in the instructions manual)
- To hang the tent, first, hang hooks on the hinge of the tailgate and pass the tent around the outside of the gas springs. Attach the velcro strips of the tent to the gas spring of your tailgate, then attach the tent to the tailgate via plastic clips or magnetic knobs. Hang the metal ring on the tailgate lock. And then repeat the whole process for the second half
- Optionally, the rear tent can be fixed to the ground with the help of tabs on the bottom edge
